The Direct FNR Upgrade for Your Ski Boat
Dog clutches have been the cornerstone of inboard ski boat design for decades, however dog clutch owners have been frustrated for years by a simple problem: no reverse gear. Whether you’re picking up passenger from a jetty, setting up for a shore-start or just trailering your boat, “Forward-Neutral” sometimes just isn’t enough.
SkiDog is an Australian designed high-performance Forward-Neutral-Reverse (FNR) upgrade unit designed to drop directly into the space occupied by your existing Forward-Neutral dog clutch. No expensive major engine modifications. No complicated drive shaft modifications. Just a bolt-on path to total control and added safety.
Prototype SkiDog units are being manufactured right now and are expected to be delivered in late-May 2026, ready for real world testing in June 2026 to ensure maximum quality and performance.
SkiDog is currently designed to be compatible with Gen II Small block Chevrolet engines and Small block Cleveland Ford engines, and we are developing compatible designs for Holden V8 (308) engines, GM LS engines, and soft clutch retrofits.
Engineered to Outperform
When designing SkiDog, we didn’t just add a gear – we improved the quality and longevity of the gearbox by opting for high-grade billet materials:
7075-T6 Aircraft-Grade Aluminum
SkiDog’s housing is CNC machined from solid billet 7075-T6. It is significantly stronger and lighter than cast aluminium alternatives and comes fully anodized for maximum corrosion resistance in harsh marine environments.
Hardened EN26 Steel Gear Train
The internal gear set is manufactured from high-strength EN26 steel which is then hardened and nitrided. This process ensures a surface that resists wear and a core that can handle the torque of high-output marine engines.
Strong gear position detent
SkiDog has a positive ball-detent system to hold the gearbox position until you make a gear selection.
